A forest film plays behind glass cards, keeps walking on its own and speeds up as you scroll. It is the site you are reading: I designed it, built it with Tailwind and plain JavaScript, and host it on my own server behind Cloudflare.
Design challenge
Keep a full screen video smooth while text scrolls over it, on desktops and on phones.
Engineering focus
A video encoded for light playback, walking speed tied to scroll speed, a watchdog that restarts a frozen video, project pages generated from one data file, and versioned CSS and JavaScript so visitors never get stale files.
Hosting
nginx on an Ubuntu VPS, a Let's Encrypt certificate issued through Cloudflare DNS, and a firewall that only accepts traffic from Cloudflare.
